OK, I admit, this is something frigging unusual, but also I'm looking for players who may be or are already interested in this game, Battle Spirits or BS for short. Basically, I fell in love with this game due to not just the anime, which is in its 6th season (far longer than Vanguard, but way shorter than good old Yu-Gi-Oh) , but is also due to the gameplay being way better than that of most games I've played thus far. Usually, I hate games that have a lot of added peripherals, but the core system isn't so bad in BS where it does a lot more than making people break shields and taking damages and hoping for triggers to come up outta nowhere. For its gameplay, the fun part is that you have 5 lives and the game ends when all are lost. This, coupled with the fact that decking out is still the thing, makes this game rather intensive, cause it's pretty nitty-gritty when you reach the last life!! Anyways, the cards in the game have less variety than YGO, but are definitely more than most other card games. They are namely: Spirit, Magic, Nexus, Brave and Ultimate.
Basically, Spirits are your normal monsters you can summon to defend or attack with. They have 3 levels usually, but there are exceptions, with a rare few attaining level 4, though this usually comes at a high price.
Magic, as most players know the term, is your usual spells, but oh boy, the range of their effectiveness is large and wide, but are mainly segmented by the color that they each represent.(This will be talked about in the next few posts.)
Nexus, is like a field spell in YGO, only that they can be played multiple times, and that they that 2 levels, in which the 2nd level is usually more effective than the level 1 effect, which makes the reason that you need to use core to build them up to level 2. The 1st 3 were shown in the 1st 2 seasons and have not lost their usage since.
Braves, however, were the new item that was introduced in Season 3 and later improved in Season 5. (2 out 3 of my favorite seasons, as their characters are relatable in some form or another.) Braves are like spirits, but instead of existing as a spirit, the can also be fused with another spirit to form the Brave spirit. This not only increases the gameplay due to higher Battle Points(BP for short) from the fuse, but also added effects due to the fuse, and some spirits have "when braved" effects, meaning the activate when you brave the spirit with a brave.
Lastly, Ultimates, and this is the broken area of BS that I truly admire, which Bandai did better than most other card game companies. Ultimate are basically, a better version of spirits, by being unaffected by said spirits!! This truly breaks the game format in a very efficient way as people like myself had difficulty beating them at first, but now, they are still unbeatable in nature, but we have ways to combat them. This in turn kept me pleased with how Bandai broke away form most other companies by not doing remakes of their card game.(Vanguard, I'm looking at you!!) All Ultimates have an effect called Ultimate-trigger, which is usually when they attack, the opponent flips open the top card of their deck and see the cost of the card, if its lower, the trigger hits and shit will happen. The trigger is then split into 3 versions, Normal, Critical Hit and Double Hit. Critical Hit is when the hit requires a certain card to be hit, making it harder to achieve, but the effects are way more rewarding when hit. Double Hit, on the other hand, is a even more harder trigger, though the Hit will be 2 as likely, as it's 2 trigger checks, and needless to say, the hit is way more painful than that of a Critical hit. Also, all Ultimates start of a level 3, instead of the usual level 1, and climaxing at level 5, though 1 Ultimate has already reached level 6. (Damn you, Ultimate Gai-Asura!!)
In a whole, the game is fun to play and rewarding when won, for it will be hard to make sure you win, and even harder to make sure you don't lose. If you are interested, though, I have no surefire place you can get the cards, but you can try ordering from Japan, or if you are a Singaporean, one place I know where the boosters are sold is at AMK hub... Now, would any kind soul help me order some cards??
